Friary |
The Church of was built in 1592, on the hill that
overlooks the town of Toro and close to the homonymous Franciscan Friary.
This church retains several
,
and
but it's
impossible to list all of them.
We mention just those that refer to Pope Orsini, Benedetto XIII, who was
Archbishop of Benevento and Abbot of Santa Sofia and loved to spend his time in
this Friary.
Pope Orsini gave to the Friary a , dated 1721 and signed by
Nicola Boraglia, and also a great painting of the Madonna di Loreto, with no
author and dated 1727, and with a dedication "Ex Amore Benedicti XIII".

CHIOSTRO
|
The Friary also keeps a portrait of Pope Orsini; he is represented in the
painting of the Madonna delle grazie, exposed in the chancel, too.
|
Besides, we can't miss to visit
,
in the third
decennium of 18th century by a popular artist; the scenes of saints and
Franciscans hit with the violence of particulars.
Very nice are the quartiles at the bottom of the lunettes, that report the name
of the people who paid for the works.
The cloister is a beautiful example of the link between the population an d the
friaries, who are very considered in the town.
